New Club to Help Lincolnshire Businesses Export to Russia

The Russia Midlands Business Club is now running to help firms in Lincolnshire to develop or expand trade with Russia. The Club is the first of its kind outside London and is supported by UK Trade and Investment (UKTI) and the Russo-British Chamber of Commerce.

Yelena McCafferty, who is a member of the Club’s working committee and runs Talk Russian Translation and Interpreting in Boston, said: “The Russia Midlands Business Club is designed to open up new opportunities in Russia and to give business owners and individuals in the Midlands and Russia a chance to network, with guest speakers giving valuable advice on the intricacies of exporting to Russia, business culture and politics.”

So far, more than 300 people across the Midlands have signed up for the club, but Yelena added: šit would be good to see more businesses from Lincolnshire taking part, as it will help them to develop exports into what has become an important marketš.

Big export potential

Exports to Russia from the UK reached £2.7 billion in 2007 and despite the economic downturn Russia’s economy offers great potential in the medium to long term. Demand for UK products and services extends across many sectors including transport, automotive & engineering, energy, oil & gas, pharmaceutical, media and education.

The Club’s next networking event is on February 26th in Imago Holywell Park Conference Centre, J23 M1, Loughborough University, LE11 3TU. It follows Russia Day organised by UK Trade and Investment. Yelena adds: “considering the current economic situation, more UK companies are looking to test new markets to increase their revenue and Russia certainly has a huge potential long-term. Stephen Dalziel, Chief Executive Officer of the Russo-British Chamber of Commerce will be the speaker at this networking event and will share his views on what is really happening in Russia.”

Russia Day held by UKTI, starting at 2 pm, is an afternoon of presentations, workshops, case studies and an exhibition, finishing with the Russia Midlands Business Club networking in the evening from 5.30 pm.

Ends.
